Review: SIA Spa

Note: I received free services from SIA Spa in exchange for writing this review on the blog. All opinions are my own.

Ever had one of those moments in life when everything seems to hit the fan? I already filled you in on my nerve pain, which has been overwhelming within itself. But have you ever had that meltdown moment, the night before your first day at your new job, when your refrigerator bites the dust (right after a Costco run, mind you) and your husband is going out of town at 4:30 the following morning and you have to throw away all of your brand-spanking-new groceries and rough it without any food in the house for a week – all with a bum leg?

…Or is that just my experience?

Needless to say, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed. Thankfully, I was rescued. When SIA Spareached out to me to see if I might like to visit their spa, I jumped at the opportunity to have a little “me” time. Between beginning a new day job with a very early wake-up call, replacing all of our kitchen appliances unexpectedly, and trying to get the right treatment to manage my nerve pain, I was definitely due a little time to relax and take care of myself. And SIA was the perfect place to do it.

SIA Spa is located just a hop, skip, and a jump up 71N in Kenwood. It’s a medical spa offering treatments that promise to revitalize you and help you escape from life’s stresses. Not only does SIA offer an incredibly relaxing atmosphere, but as a medical spa, they keep a medical file for all of their clients, to make sure they’re in tune with each customer’s mind, body, and spirit. It’s a true holistic approach that’s really unique to SIA – and is a great fit for me considering my herniated disc. Sign me up!

When I arrived at SIA, it was like a weight was instantly lifted. The lobby is stunning and the staff greet you with a smile. A member of SIA’s staff welcomed me and showed me to the women’s dressing room, where they have lots of amenities available, including soft, cozy robes and towels, slippers, private lockers, showers, a steam room, and all the products your heart could desire.

I was told to make myself at home, and when I was ready, move into the quiet room next door to relax, grab a cup of herbal tea, and fill out my paperwork prior to my services.

I found my locker, changed into a robe and slippers, and got started on my paperwork. It was all pretty straightforward – and I was glad to answer the questions if it would help SIA guide me to the right services, and help my masseuse target the right areas in my massage.

Before my massage, I met with Wendy, a medical esthetician at SIA, to get a VISIA Skin Analysis in the Medi Spa. The staff at SIA had recommended this service to me as an introduction to their medical skin care treatments that they offer at the spa. VISIA captures high resolution, 3D facial images and gives you a quantitative analysis of your skin. It compares your skin to others of similar age and background, and even gives your skin an age, so you can compare it to your actual age.

Now, I hate to toot my own horn, but if there’s one thing I get compliments on, it’s my skin. I’m really fortunate in that I’ve always had nice skin – I’ve never had acne or dealt with any major skin issues. Of course, I have to be careful when I’m in the sun – since I’m fair-skinned, I freckle easily and am prone to sunburns. Even though I don’t have a lot of skin issues, I was excited to see what the VISIA would find – and if there were proactive things I could be doing to make sure my skin stays this way for as long as possible.

Wendy asked me to wash off my makeup, to make the VISIA analysis more effective. Then, she entered my age and skin type into the system, and took three photos of my face: one of each side and one face-on. The analysis ranks your skin against the average for people of your same age and skin type – on texture, wrinkles, acne, dark spots, UV damage, and more.

Can’t believe I’m sharing a #nomakeup photo – but here I am, in all my VISIA glory! Wendy walks you through your results and areas where you can focus to improve your skin.

My results were pretty good, although there were some areas where I could improve that were surprising. I’m a true English – pale with lots of freckles. Turns out, I need to be even more careful about sunscreen. I also am a bit above average for wrinkles around my eyes, so Wendy suggested an eye gel and a Vitamin C gel for me to use to help combat that moving forward, along with regular facials. I’m 28 years old, but have the skin of a 33 year old – not bad, but not as great as I had thought.

The VISIA analysis takes 20 minutes and is a free service for clients – it’s easy to add on to another appointment, and it’s really informative! While SIA offers a lot of services like facials, botox, derma planing, and more, they don’t do a hard sell when they see your VISIA results – they simply make suggestions that could help you down the road. I really appreciated Wendy’s advice.

After my VISIA analysis, Wendy introduced me to Tanya, who was my masseuse. Tanya asked me some questions about my back and nerve pain, then showed me the massage room and let me settle in. When she came back, she made sure I was settled, and gave me a fantastic massage – starting with my legs, then moving to my back, neck, and arms. It was incredibly relaxing, and she took special care around my lower back and left leg, where I’m experiencing pain. She really targeted the massage to the areas where I was looking for pain relief, making sure I was comfortable the whole time, and also leaving plenty of time for relaxation. It was AWESOME.

I basically had to be peeled off the table at the end – I have never been so relaxed! Before heading home, I spent a bit of time in the steam room after my massage, which was so nice. It was wonderful to take some quiet moments all to myself.

I typically only book a massage if I have a gift certificate or am particularly stressed, but I think a massage with Tanya is going to become a more regular occurrence. The best part? The day after my massage I was able to walk a 5K with very little trouble – she even relieved some of my nerve pain!

I was so impressed with every aspect of SIA. The entire experience is personalized just for you – and they take extra care to make sure your treatment is the best fit for your needs. It was relaxing from start to finish. I left feeling like a new woman!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed like I was, here’s a little treat just for you from the generous people at SIA: call and reserve an appointment for any service at the spa, and mention The Cincinnista to get $10 off now through April 30th, 2016. What are you waiting for? Check out their brochure of services (and be sure to request a VISIA Skin Analysis – it’s too cool to pass up, and could really help you prevent issues down the line!)

Here’s to taking a little time just for us, Cincinnistas!

Until next time,
